How can I overcome my depression?
We all know what it’s like to feel blue. Depression can be caused by numerous factors in life, such as disappointments, stresses, failures, losing in a competition and the list goes on.
Depression can present itself with somatic manifestation. This means the patient feels bodily discomfort or pain for no apparent reason. Some patients may experience headaches, chest pain, upper or low back pain, indigestion, intestinal disorder, stomach ache, rash, etc. Because the mind and the body are so closely linked, the body expresses what the mind is feeling. These kinds of symptoms where the mind affects the body is called psychosomatic disorders. When we are under too much stress, most of us experience tension headaches. This is an example of mind affecting the body resulting in a headache.
There are many effective treatments available besides psychotherapy. Many effective medications are successful in treating most common variety of depression. Some patients with depression may not be willing to seek medical attention due to the stigma attached to depression. Feeling depressed doesn’t mean one is weak or inferior. If you suspect that you might suffer from depression, I urge you to see your physician, who can help you lead a depression free life. There is no shame in being diagnosed with depression.
Life is too short; don’t let depression rob you of living a healthy and joyful life. A healthy mind promotes a healthy body, so be good to your mind and body, and then you can enjoy your health.
