What is food poisoning?

It is a pretty common condition caused by food that has been tainted with germs such as virus, bacteria and parasites. The common virus is Hepatitis A, which can cause symptoms from mild to severe degrees of upset stomach to vomiting and diarrhea.

The common bacteria that has been associated with uncooked beef/hamburger causing food poisoning, is called E. coli bacteria. This can be very dangerous to children and the elderly or to any immune compromised patients, such as diabetics or AIDS patients.

The parasite called Giardia can also cause an upset stomach. It is found in tainted drinking water, usually from a lake or river. Food poisoning can be easily prevented by proper hand washing, and proper cooking and handling of food.
